Throughout the last five thousand years, teaching techniques have changed drastically. There have been several large educational movements in this time. The greatest one, being from 1300 to 1700 was between the Renaissance and the Reformation. The Renaissance represented a rebellion of the common people against those of royalty and landed gentry. They were in search of a brighter future and therefor in need of an education. Years later, then colonists arrived in the New World, they brought much of their European educational ideas with them. Many of these ideas were derived from religious motives. During this period there was no education for people who were poor, of color, or women.
During the last 75 years, the United States educational system has changed in greatly in both size and complexity. There has been a need for more schools and teachers due to the increase in numbers of students. There has also been a growth in educational programs, giving students more opportunities and reasons for needing to continue their schoolings. An education as become the most important part of a child’s life, and is to be made their first priority.
